Alfa Romeo to Ditch Giorgio Platform in Favor of Stellantis New Electrified Designs

Alfa Romeo to Ditch Giorgio Platform in Favor of Stellantis New Electrified Designs

In a recent announcement, the Alfa Romeo CEO said that the company would be moving on from the Giorgio platform. This platform has been responsible for several successful production projects that Alfa Romeo has embarked on in the past. Giorgio supports the 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia, as well as the recent Jeep Grand Cherokee. Henceforth, however, Alfa Romeo would be taking on the modular platforms from the widely-acclaimed Stellantis. This time around, battery-electric car options would be the dominant options explored going forward.

This all is in the bid by Alfa Romero to strengthen their base and serve their clients better. While commenting on the development in Italy, the New CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, said, “We must take advantage of the volumes to take all possible opportunities and bring the EV rage to Alfa Romeo, but always with the touch of Alfa Romeo.” Forbes reports that the particular platform that Alfa Romeo would use is the STLA Large. Maserati would use the same. They would also be using platforms referred to as the STLA Small and STLA Medium for a wider range. The Small platform would be replacing the Stellantis current CMP platform. It is more compatible with mini smaller cars. Interestingly, the STLA Large and the STLA Medium can go over 400 miles of range.

Furthermore, before Imparato’s comments on the upgrade, Stellantis CEO had announced at the annual general meeting that the passenger lineup for Stellantis had been set at four. Ad all these four would support electric cars. By observation, the fourth platform is expected to be used for future Dodge and Jeep vehicles. This is because it seems to be an upgrade on the Giorgio platform that will be compatible with hybrid cars but not battery-electric ones. These operational changes look promising. Alfa Romeo switching from the Giorgio platform would serve them better in creating new auto products that would be best suited for owners interested in electric vehicles.

Though just a few years old, Alfa Romeo would stop at nothing to give the best automobile products to its clients.
